Laser Hair Removal Gippsland

Are you sick of waxing, shaving, plucking, or using creams to keep your skin smooth and hair-free? Laser hair removal is a safe, effective, and long-term solution to help get rid of those unsightly hairs. Saving you precious time, money and unwanted hair removal pain!

Our clinic is based in Traralgon and has been helping clients all across the Gippsland area to manage and maintain softer, smoother looking skin through laser hair removal. Your specialist, Therese Mack is a qualified registered nurse who specialises in laser treatments and hair removal. Besides laser treatments, she also has years of experience treating people using cosmetic injectables and chemical peels.

Areas We Treat Using Laser Hair Removal

Cosmetic Skin Labs specialises in using laser to remove hair from all over the body, including:

  • Face
  • Chin
  • Underarm
  • Back
  • Chest
  • Bikini line

We keep the surface of your skin cool during your laser hair removal treatment, which means even delicate or sensitive areas can be treated with very minimal discomfort (if any at all).

Benefits of Using Laser for Hair Removal

  • Cost effective
Once you undergo laser treatment, you will no longer need to spend money on wax treatments, depilatory creams, and razors. Consequently, the time you used to spend for waxing and shaving can now be spent on doing more important things than just removing unwanted hair.
  • No ingrown hair
Compared to waxing, threading, and epilating, laser treatments are not painful and there is no need to put up with ingrown hair. In addition, there will be no burns or irritation that one usually gets from using a razor.
  • Precision
With laser, you can directly treat dark, coarse hair without damaging the surrounding skin.
  • Speedy treatment
Depending on the area to be treated, a laser treatment can take up to only 1 hour to finish. A laser treatment on a small area like the upper lip takes only a few minutes to treat. As such, it is easy for the procedure to be scheduled within your normal daily routine.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

The idea behind this procedure is selective photothermolysis (or SPTL). A specific pulse duration and wavelength of light is matched and targeted on a tissue with negligible effect on the surrounding skin. The laser goes to directly heating the follicle (the part that causes hair growth) without affecting the rest of the skin.

The understanding is that dark objects absorb light while light objects reflect it. Therefore, laser is absorbed by dark material in the hair or skin, and in the case of a laser treatment, the absorption of laser is faster and more intense if the skin has dark adult hair or has a significant amount of melanin.

Laser hair removal is not painful, and only very mild discomfort may be felt. Our clients sometimes report its a similar sensation to an elastic band being flicked on the skin. For each treatment session, you will be provided with goggles for eye protection. The site to be treated must be shaved prior to the treatment. We recommend you wear loose-fitting clothes over the treated area for your comfort after your hair removal session.

Aftercare for Laser Hair Removal

Our Traralgon-based clinic specialises in removing hair from any part of the body with very minimal discomfort – even those delicate areas. We do recommend some very simple post-care tips to ensure you remain nice and comfortable after your hair removal session:

  • Minimise exposure to the sun immediately following treatment, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.
  • We apply a cooling agent at the time of treatment. However if you find your skin is feeling warm after your hair removal session, you are more than welcome to apply ice over the treated area.
  • Avoid rubbing, exfoliating or irritating treated areas.
  • Your hair follicle will likely appear more obvious following treatment. This is completely normal, and it does not mean your hair is regrowing. This will actually subside 1-3 days following treatment.
  • You will likely experience some hair regrowth as early as 7 days following treatment. However, it is very minimal compared to your hairs normal rate of growth. Do not wax or pluck these hairs.
  • Shaving your hair is fine, and we require you to do this anyway before your next laser hair removal session.

Laser Hair Removal – Frequently Asked Questions

Who should get laser hair removal treatment?

Anyone who wants unwanted hair to be permanently removed can use this treatment. For women, the treatment is usually applied on areas such as legs, underarm and bikini lines. For men, the treatment is usually done on the back or the neck.

What does the laser hair removal treatment feel like?

You will experience very minimal discomfort, if any at all. The laser will feel a little warm, and we use a cooling agent to minimize this warm sensation.

Our clients report that in sensitive areas they can feel a sensation, similar to an elastic band being snapped against the skin.

What results can I expect from laser hair removal?

Most patients require 5 to 8 treatment sessions, with an interval of 4 to 6 weeks apart. If you have lighter hair, the treatment is not as effective as darker hair, and you may require more treatment sessions.
